I know, when I have to purchase a story, and I'm either paying $2.99/plus for an e-book, or $7.99/plus for a paperback/hardback book, I better be getting a full-length book; that means 200 plus pages, with a story that is worth my time to read.
I don't think it is fair to pay more than $0.99 for any story under 100 pages, and $1.99 for any story under 200 pages. Short stories are great for some things. For me, I prefer them if I'm looking for an easy read for a plane ride or car ride that is an hour or more long.
I'm also more likely to get a short story and try out a newer author if the story is free. Most of my money for books, however, is spent on novel length books. What I am finding is that when I find a story that I think sounds amazing, they turn out to be short stories, and cost as much as a novel length book, and the stories feel rushed and incomplete.
Anyway, I'd like to know what your opinion is on both types of stories. Where would you rather spend your money? What would you rather read? Do you feel short stories are incomplete or rushed?
Another thought, are you willing to pay a bit more for a boxed set of short stories?
Just random thoughts on reading, and money.
I have a short romantic story that I published as part of a boxed set. I'm going to republish it soon as a stand alone, but I'm going to publish it as free. I'll keep you updated.
In the meantime, if you're interested in reading my debut novel, check it out here on amazon:
